WE NEED EACH OTHER TO SURVIVE

No one is an island. We need each other and one another to survive at all times. If we consider the physiology of human being or all the component parts of an organization, we will see that all parts have to work in unison or else, the individual will report sick or indisposed to say the least. By the same token, an organization that cannot work as a team, will sooner or later become dysfunctional. For the married couple, they need to strike a balance between them in living with little or no disagreement in order to present a common front. Failure to place themselves on a common platform will bring problem that will engulf their children except for divine grace upon the children. Be a team builder and sustainer. No country is sufficient for itself, however developed it may be. In the days of trade by barter , the insufficiency of man is quite obvious. What a person has the other man does not have and so people had to exchange goods to supplement what they do have. The developing countries of the world had to look up to the developing world to source raw materials. After processing them in their industrial establishments they must look out for market in order to dispose the manufactured goods. They may in the course of exchange have greater economic gain over developing world. It is however certain that in the absence of market for finished products , there would be colossal loss on the part of the entrepreneurs. In politics it is said that there is no permanent enemies or friends. It is only when the association is beneficial to all parties involved that friendship can last long. As soon as the benefits are not equal or near equal there is the tendency for the relationship to break down. Political realignment is very common when there is comparative advantage for one to affiliate or join the association. Man as a social animal derives joy in belonging to a party, social or religious organistion.

Obviously, we need each other or even one another to survive. As a body of Christ, we are the church and we exist in our different units to help each to survive. The kings of Israel needed the prophets for God’s approval before they wage any war. Joshua needed God to show him why they lost the battle with a small community. The word of God came to let them know that one of them has disobeyed God’ instruction not to take any war booty from the earlier war. It happened that Achan took and hid the item in his tent. Aaron was raised to priesthood as a helper to Moses who had defect in speech. To unite the Northern and Southern kingdoms of Israel, Abner, Saul’s war commander had to defect from the house of Saul to cede the ten tribes of Israel to David. Abigael’s action helped David to desist from taking vengeance on Nabal who denied David’s fugitive entourage victual in spite of having rendered unsolicited help to protect Nabal’s sheep from being attacked in the wilderness. Jonah was sent to preach repentance to the people of Nineveh before God averted the impending disaster. The people abided by his preaching and God forgive them  until hundred years later when there was no one to warn them as they reverted to their earlier sinful ways and God had to punish them.

Integrity

One with integrity can rise from prison to palace. Integrity is a word that denotes a set of character or behavior pattern or an adorable constant characteristic in a person that conforms with what the Lord demands from human beings in our daily living. The holiness of god can be translated to mean integrity. God’s “Yea is Yea and Nay is Nay”. HE does not blow hot and cold at the same time. A person to be known to have integrity must be able to say or do something and stand by it, even it brings sorrow and anguish but at last one would be vindicated. Thus, one canexplain as inviolable trith that cannot be decicrated.

Let us look at the sweet-sour life of Samson that was born with special anointing to combat and contain the ravaging Philistines. He started well.He later lost focus and was no more able to adhere to the tenets of theanointing upon him even inspite of his parents’ admonition. Judges 13 talked about his miraculous birth while chapters 14-16 how he lost his integrity which was the hallmark of his anointing. Man is prone to sinning but confessing and asking God to return him to the path of righteousness in order to get him saved from eternal damnation. The last minuterequest he made to God gave the anointed power to avenge his ordeal by killing The man  more at death than he did  in his early life. “The man of integrity  walks securely, but he who takes crooked paths will be found out”. Proverbs 10: 9.

The life of David is such that his becoming king was based on what God ad seen in his heart and not on his physical attributes. to choose who to anoint king after KIng Saul. God Prophet Samuel who wanted to use physical for choosing the king until young was brought from the wilderness where he was tendering the flock. 1 Chronicles 29:17 says “I know my God,that you test the heart and are pleased with integrity” Joseph’s journey to Egypt and from prison to palace agreed with what the bible recorded. He showed he was a man of integrity by refusing to blot his inviolable character of fearing the Lord and to stand for truth and for honorable character. He refused to sleep with his master’s wife. It could have ruined his destiny of becoming an alien Prime Minister  of Egypt. In Psalm 84:11, the psalmist wrote, “The Lord God is a sun and shield, the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does He withhold from those whose walk is blameless”. It is more or less an epitaph on the life of Joseph in Egypt.

Integrity sustained the life of David long before he became king, especially when he was on the run for dear life. king Saul took 3000 men from the cream of his soldiers to search, find and kill David. In a cave located in the Wilderness of Engedi saw King Saul sleeping defenceless in the midst of his bodyguards who were also fast asleep. Ordinarily, he had every reason to strike King Saul to death but the fear of the Lord prevented him from killing the God’s anointed. he regarded such as most heinous sin. Were he to have seized the possibly rare opportunity kill King Saul his own soldiers would have unconsciously imbibed the culture of killing the incumbent in order to ascend to the throne. He would have unconsciously taught them that such was the best option as road to the throne 1Sam 24. In 1Sam 26: 22-24, we saw David’s integrity at its best. David replied, “Here is the King’s spear!; Let one of your servants cross over and get it.The lord rewards each man for his integrity and loyalty.Even though today the Lord delivered you into my hand, I was not willing to extend my hand against the Lord’s anointed one. In the same way I valued your life this day, may the Lord value my life and deliver me from all dangers”.

Known biblical reference pointed to Achan as one without integrity and it led to Israel’s defeat in the hand of a small town called Ai, whereas with God on the side of Israel, they destroyed  Jericho (that was a strongly fortified city) with songs of praises and dancing round it for seven days . On the last day, final action was taken in obedience to God and the Walls of Jericho fell. It is obvious that one with integrity can rise from grass to grace.

ESSENCE OF CHRISTIAN WORSHIP

ESSENCE OF CHRcISTIAN WORSHIP

Who do we have to worship? It is the God of the universe, the Almighty, the Omnipotent, omniscient, He is the I am that I am as prescribed to us in Exodus 20: 3 “You shall have no other God but me”. What does it take to worship the Almighty God? First, we have to attune our mind, soul and spirit to Him who has the be all and end all of who we are or who we can ever be in life. Worshipping our God involves having to honor Him. At human level, we honor our boss, our parents and people both great and small as well as our individual selves. We honor the people created by God. In most cases, if we fail to honor them the ensuing consequences may be capable of hurting us and causing us untold regret on the long run.

How then do we think such a wanton neglect of our maker will please Him, if, as his hand-made from His free volition we refuse to honor Him for who HE is to us ? We do know for sure, He is greater than the greatest. The bible recorded in Exodus 34: 14 “For you shall worship no other God, for the Lord whose name is JEALOUS, is a jealous God” Can we in view of the foregoing, blame God for being angry with us if we treat moulded and carved images as well as human beings with great honor and veneration? Undoubtedly it is sinful not to honor God in our thought, words and deeds as part of our worship service to our creator.

As to where to worship the Lord, our first suggestion is in the church or sanctuary where we can fellowship with one another in the presence of the Lord. However, worshipping God is not confined to the church alone, for it goes beyond any specific building designated as church or sanctuary. Psalm 99: 5 tells us: “Exalt ye the Lord our God, and worship at his footstool; for He is holy”. For the purpose of emphasis, the Psalmist reiterated in Verse: 9 of the passage thus : ” Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at his holy hill; for the Lord our God is holy”. (KJV) The bible also declared in 1Chronicles 16: 29: “Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name; bring an offering, and come before him, worship the Lord in the beauty of Holiness”. Our worship is an expression of fearing the Lord. It assures us of positive consequences or with salutary effect(s) 1 Chro. 16: 30-33 continued by showing the positive effect of honoring God through our worship: “Fear before him, all the earth; the world also shall be stable, that it be not moved. Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; and let men say among the nations, The LORD reigneth. Let the sea roar, and the fullness thereof: let the fields rejoice, and all that is therein. Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of the Lord, because he cometh to judge the earth”.

His footstool connotes not only a church but also any place dedicated and sanctified for meeting with him. These include family altar at home , churches, prayer ground (holy ground) like Mount Olive, where Jesus used to pray while on earth, RCCG Prayer City in Nigeria and in Texas US, Canaan Land Convention Center OTA, Nigeria, Crusade Venues and many more all over the world.

We worship the Lord even in our daily conversation as we speak with the fear of the Lord in our heart, and also when we sing praises as individuals within congregation of worshippers. Worshipping God is foremost in man’s life. Jesus himself confronted Satan with this eternal truth to frustrate Satan’s deceptive effort at beguiling HIM as quoted from Matthew 4: 10 “Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan; for It is written, Thou shall worship the Lord thy God, and him only shall thou serve.” Satan’s effort to beguile Jesus culminated in taking Him to the top of “exceeding high mountain” and showed him all the kingdoms of the world with the pervading glory with a view to making Jesus to worship him. Then Jesus bluntly gave him the final rebuff to silence Satan and left an enduring legacy of rebuffing Satan and getting rooted in worshipping the Almighty God.

Worshipping God is to man’s advantage, as written earlier on, because it gives God great impetus to bless all those who worship Him in spirit and truth. Jesus Christ told us in John 4: 23-24 “But the hour is coming, and now is , when the truth worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him…….God is spirit and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth” In essence, we worship to please Him. When God is pleased with worshippers there is always outpouring of his blessings on them. Any born-again Christian should uphold worshipping God in truth and in spirit mainly or most importantly for who God is per se. Paul and Silas did it, it so moved God on the throne and it caused attendant earthquake in which the stocks on their legs got broken and prison humanly well secured gate got shattered. Acts 16: 21-26 (KJV)

If angelic hosts of Heaven and the twenty-four elders can afford to worship God 24/7 why should we, human beings, refuse to worship Him in all aspects of our life. I would at this juncture like to equate worshipping the Lord with having the fear of the Lord in our heart. Whosoever loves God whole-heartedly should find no reason for not worshipping our amazing God in all purity. A serious worshipper cannot be found working on his profit and loss account while the sermon is going on. Such a so-called believer was only there to worship money, and not his creator. The verdict as given by Jesus in Matthew 7: 21, concerning those who do not do God’s will, I pray, will not be our portion in Jesus most precious name. Worshipping God shows perfect submission to the will of God.

Strength In Weakness

Man remained blindfolded and could not see what God is capable of doing

Man remained blindfolded and could not see what God is capable of doing

From human angle, anyone that is weak is often written off as good for nothing but the Almighty God says in Isaiah 55: 8-9 (NKJV) “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor your ways are not my ways. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts”. By the same token in Corinthian 1: 27 we read: “But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty” (NKJV) The words of God are replete with examples of where HE used apparent weaklings or un-informed or un-educated people to achieve his aims and objectives in the affairs of mankind. David, in ordinary human consideration, was an obvious mismatch to Goliath’s glowing battle field records. God used the young David untested  in the art professional fighting like Goliath – a war veteran. Goliath berated the ruddy David to the extent of blasphaming the God of Israel to his detriment and complete disaster.

Think of the four lepers who out of desperation for their ruined life chose to surrender themselves to the enemies’ camp hoping to get food or be killed by those enemies that have laid siege on Samaria. God amplified their footsteps in the ears of the enemies as if armies mightier than theirs had been brought against them. In fear and trembling they abandoned their food, weapons and jewelries for dear life. By Jewish tradition in those days, lepers were banished from the community dejected, defenseless and were waiting for death to take them away. ll Kings 7 :1-end recorded the story of Elisha and the Syrians. Elisha prophesied a twenty-four hour end to a great famine in Samaria. God used four lepers to bring to an end the saga of sorrow and anguish whereas, the king’s right hand man who doubted God’s ability to do accordingly saw the plenty but was not able to partake from the food which became more than enough. He was trampled over after seeing how the prophetic windows of heaven had been opened up according to the prophet.

The King, Princes, and high-ranking officers in the kingdom failed to bring succor to Samaria but banished, abandoned, ostracized and rejected ones were used to end a terrible siege on Samaria. So also it was the Jewish house-help that alerted Naaman’s wife that a prophet was capable of healing Naaman’s leprosy. By honoring the advice of the lowly slave girl the great but leprous Naaman was healed. Therefore, neither look down on nor talk down anyone considered to be poor, meek or even homeless.

Non-Carnal Love Series # 24

Love of Christ is love of God

Love of Christ is love of God

Love locks the gate of hell against the lost loved one who the Lord used to revolutionize the spread of the gospel. This statement summarises the love of God on Peter the rock on which the Church of Christ was built, on one part Matt 16 : 18. On the other hand, the love of God figured out who HE had equipped mentally, psychologically and educationally with high-profile social status to lead in propagating the gospel to both the Jews and the gentiles. Saul of Tarsus was he that God was instructing Peter not to reject as part of his team (Jesus’ disciples) Act 10: 10-20 (NKJV)

It is just human for the disciples not to want to accept Paul based on the persecution they have been suffering. In view of Jesus earlier declaration that says: “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible” Matt 19: 26B (NKJV). God networked Ananias (who baptized Saul and laid hand on him to receive his sight), Judas in whose house Saul stayed for three days along the Street called STRAIGHT Act 9: 10-19 (NKJV), Barnabas in Jerusalem and lastly Peter. God told Peter in a trance that he should not reject anyone who God had cleansed Act 10: 13-15 (NKJV). It is the love of God, all must believe, that binds us together. HE, the Almighty God possesses the sovereign power to choose who to use as vessel of honor like Paul the Apostle.

Non-Carnal Love Series # 16

In the present age, we often hear people say “an opportunity once lost can never be regained”. It is believed  to be for scaring people away from having “a second chance”. As for ardent seekers, Jesus  assured his disciples thus: “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible”. Matthew 19: 26b (NKJV). Steadfast love of the Lord is always available to be appropriated by the seekers when things are going awry. Secondly, the risen Christ yanked Saul out of his wickedness and transformed him into a life-saver for eternity.

Life today is replete with success coming from second chance. Legendary Abraham Lincoln became US President after so many failed attempts at the presidency. In education there are so many remedial programs in place to help those who missed the first chance. Ford Motors after the bail-out is now doing fine. God loves humanity as a matter of course but does not close the window of  asking for ones needs, second chance not withstanding. This is a prelude to the event concerning ‘Road to Damascus’.
